Education

Education is power. Education is the key to health, wealth and meaning. While many students in America complain about being forced to go to school each day, many have no access to education at all and will, most likely spend their entire life in poverty because of it. One of the main differences between "developed countries" (like the United States) and the "developing world" (places of extreme poverty) is education.

Some important facts:

  • Nearly 25% of the world's adult and youth populations is illiterate
  • 113 million children have no access to education (source UNESCO)
  • 1 in 5 adults reads below the 5th grade level
  • Illiteracy is the number one precursor to poverty, poor health and incarceration  (Source: Project learn)
